A fire broke out in a garment factory in Kandarpada area in Dahisar (West) at 4:15 pm on Wednesday, reportedly due to short circuit, causing loss to property, equipment and fabrics.

According to an officer at Disaster Management Cell of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), three fire engines and three tankers were rushed to the spot after they received a call at 4:25 pm. The fire was doused by the firemen within 45 minutes and no casualties or injuries were reported.

The building, which is 55 years old, is a protected structure owned by Harish Chouhan, who had rented it to the garment factory operator.

There was no fire safety equipment installed in the factory. As soon as the fire broke out, all the workers were rushed out of the factory.

The factory owner is still calculating the scale of loss of property.

The corporator of the area, Abhishek Ghosalkar, said, "A new fire station will be coming up in Kandarpada near Dahisar Bridge to serve the needs of the people in the area."
