A Mumbai-based woman has lodged a complaint with Mulund police after her mobile number went viral from a fake Facebook profile and she started receiving a barrage of calls by unknown persons.

According to the police, a woman had suddenly started receiving numerous phone calls from unknown people who would tell her that she only asked them to call. The woman was shocked to learn that her number was made viral from a Facebook profile which has been opened with her sister's name. The victim's number was posted stating 'call me'.
Reading the post, people started calling her and were making derogatory remarks. The police said, complainant then checked with her sister if she has opened a new facebook account, however, the sister had not.
"Fed up with the continuous calls with abuses, the woman approached us on April 20 and lodged the complaint, After verifying her claim, we have registered a case and have started an investigation in the matter. The account has been suspended by the cyber cell and we have written to Facebook for details about the fake account," said a police officer from Mulund Police Station
Another police officer said, "We suspect that someone known to the victim could be behind the act as the perpetrator's motto was to harass the woman. The victim has now changed her mobile number as he was shaken by the calls,"
"A case has been registered under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and Information Technology act," said Shripad Kale, Senior Police Inspector of Mulund Police Station.
