A 26-year-old Kandivali resident suffered from excessive internal bleeding after giving birth to her baby mainly because an improper suture was done on her during her c-section operation. While Shweta Shah's family members, took her to four hospitals within six hours of her delivery, she was finally admitted in one of the private hospitals at Vile Parle due to poor medical facilities at other local places.

According to the doctors, she is in a critical condition and has been in the intensive care unit (ICU) since the time of admission. Due to lack of treatment in the first six hours of her c-section operation, she suffered from internal bleeding of over two litre.

Shah's husband Rahul Shah said, "After the delivery, within two hours, the doctors asked us to shift her to another hospital because of complications. We were not able to understand the reason for her critical state. I took her to four hospitals. While a few of them refused to provide treatment due to lack of facilities, one of the hospitals denied admission due to non-availability of beds."

Shah delivered a baby on Monday morning at around 11.40 am in a nearby local hospital.

Dr Gayatri Despande, a gynaecologist from the Nanavati Hospital, said, "In this case, around six to seven hours of the patient were wasted without treatment. At night, she was brought to Nanavati Hospital and we stabilised her condition by giving her blood. Within half an hour, we planned to conduct a laparotomy since her sonography report stated there is excessive fluid in her body."

Shah will be discharged this week. Shah's family has already spent Rs 2.5 lakh on her treatment.

The doctor further added, "In such cases, patients collapse if treatment is not given on time. In Shah's case because of lack of blood products in the body and ICU facilities, she would have collapsed. While she was earlier admitted in ICU ward, she has been shifted out of ICU two days ago."
