A teenager's night-time obsession with online streaming service Netflix has left with an ordinary mobile phone. While his girlfriend tried to commit suicide as he was not paying attention to her and later had to undergo psychotherapy, the teenager is now being given therapy for his addiction.

While his girlfriend had been undergoing therapy for a few weeks, the teenager was called by the psychiatrist at KEM Hospital a week ago. According to doctors from the psychiatry department at KEM, the teenager was having a change in his behavioural pattern, due to which, he has now been advised to use a simple phone. He is said to have been problems with his parents too.

"According to his parents and the girlfriend, he is a well-mannered child. Before getting addicted to binge watching, he used to get along with everyone. His parents have now realised that he is not able to give up watching web series," said the psychiatry department's head, Dr Shubhangi Parkar.

"He is showing features of depression such as, not making eye contact while talking, not being concerned about people talking to him. So far, he has undergone two sessions. He does not want to do any other work and just wants to watch series," Parkar added.

In order to make the parents realise his addiction, the girl met them and made them aware of his mental condition. According to the parents, the boy does not go outdoor to socialise.

"While he came for the session, he was not interested in communicating with us. During the upcoming sessions we will educate him about his addiction, which he is not able to understand even now," Parkar said.
