One of the renowned architect Prem Nath, who designed buildings such as Ambassador Hotel, Nehru Centre to name a few, will be undergoing a bypass surgery on Monday. He suffered from a cardiac arrest on Wednesday while doing a morning walk, another morning walker, Sameer Firasta, a 51-year-old businessman gave Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the patient after which he was shifted to the nearby Holy Family Hospital.

An AED machine and knowledge about performing a CPR saved the life of Nath. While this was the first case at Carter Road where a layman without a medical background saved a life as he was trained to perform CPR, according to the doctors, awareness level in the general public of CPR is poor.

Most of the pedestrian believed smell a shoe or putting water in Nath's mouth will help him to come back in a conscious state rather than giving a CPR. Sameer who helped Nath, said, "It was a challenge for me to explain to the bystander what is the right technique and also perform it for the first time on a human being."

The I care team of medical officials, who train citizens for CPR, states that citizens need to know how to perform a CPR which can save a life in golden minutes. "In three minutes, a morning walker saved the life of another morning walker. It is very important that people should be aware of the technique for emergency medical situations. It should be part of the school curriculum," said Anand Shrivastav, project director of I care team.
