Mumbai: App to book black-and-yellow taxis

Now, you will be able to book black-and-yellow taxis for your journey, thanks to a new app launched on Android phones. Bookmycab.com, the first call-taxi service having a fleet of 3,000 taxis in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, has launched the app.

While other fleet-taxi service providers have started providing mobile applications to book vehicles in Mumbai and other Indian cities, this is the first time black-and-yellow taxis too can be booked using a mobile app.

One of the best features of the new app is that even if you don’t have internet connectivity at the time of booking, you will still be able to book the cab — as soon as you click the ‘Send’ button, a prompt will appear, saying: ‘Not connected to the Internet, use SMS to book a cab?’ All you have to do is reply in the affirmative, and the booking will be confirmed via SMS.

Once a confirmation message is received, the taxi will be made available for the journey in 10 to 20 minutes, as the taxis have been equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) and General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) for real-time tracking.

“We’ve just made regular black-and-yellow cabs and AC cabs more accessible for the people of Mumbai,” said Avinash Gupta, CEO, Bookmycab.
