An audit commissioned by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) through an external agency has brought to light some startlingly facts — what passengers think about the airport in city.

What were the parameters, how many people were surveyed?
Facilities, convenience and cleanliness always remain the main parameters on which any airport is judged by passengers and others alike.
Of the 4,637 passengers surveyed by the National Council of Applied Economics Research (NCAER), 3,246 (70.1%) were domestic and 1,391 (29.9%) were international.

What did the audit reveal?
About 62.2% passengers surveyed said the check-in facility at city airport is 'good', while only 13.2% felt that it was 'excellent', and 2.7% thought it was 'poor'. In terms of cleanliness and sanitation on the premises, 55.6% said it was 'good', 14.5% rated it 'excellent', and 4.4% felt that these services were 'poor'.
Similarly, 67.2% passengers felt that the boarding facilities were 'good', but a mere 8.2% found them to be 'excellent'. About 2.5% felt that the boarding facilities were 'poor'.

Details about those surveyed
According to the NCAER report, of the total number of survey participants, 37.6% were in the age group of 25–34 and 26.4% in the age group of 35–44, indicating that a maximum number, ie 64%, were aged between 25 and 44, the age group known for its high level of spending.
Occupation-wise breakage of the passengers showed that the highest percentage (64%) were salaried, followed by the self-employed, in business and trade, (21%). About seven per cent of the passengers were students.
The spending activity of passengers in Mumbai indicates that more than 76% spend up to Rs5,000 on transportation. A maximum number of passengers (around 55%) who came to Mumbai spent more than Rs5,000 on hotels and about 45% spent Rs1,000–10,000 on other expenses, such as watching movies and shopping.

Busy and bustling
The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, which is run by MIAL, is considered among the busiest airports in the subcontinent. The audit report claims that the domestic traffic growth will cross 30 million by 2022–23. International traffic too will continue to show positive growth and touch 49 million by 2022–23.
