After beautifying Matunga flyover, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is now planning to beautify the space under Aanik Wadala flyover.

After investing in a project to convert 600 square metre space under Matunga flyover into the Nanalal D Mehta garden and jogging track, the civic body decided to replicate the same model for other flyovers.

As per the plan, 29 more gardens will be built under bridges to utilise the space and the next in line is the Aanik Wadala flyover. The civic body will construct a jogging track, landscape, and a garden under it at a cost of Rs 2.20 crore. As per the proposal from an administrative department, the beautification work will be carried out in phases, starting with the construction of a jogging track along Trimurti Road and followed by construction of a storm water drain in the Meenatai Thackeray Udyan.

A BMC official said, "There will be seating arrangements along the jogging track and the whole beautification work will take 11 months to complete. "The beautification work includes construction of new pavements, retaining walls, grills, and a landscape. The contractor will have to maintain the beautification work free of cost for a period of one year from the time of completion.

If all goes as per plan, the new constructions will contribute to 12 acres of open space.

The city has very less open space per person. At present, only 1.28 square metre open space is available per person, whereas the standard requirement is 4 square metre per person.
