Mumbai: 2 more cops attacked within 24 hours in separate incidents

Weeks after traffic constable at Bandra division Vilas Shinde, who lost his life while on duty after being attacked by a juvenile and his brother, the assault on policemen doesn't seem to stop. In two separate incidents, two policemen were manhandled and attacked.

In the first incident that took place in the afternoon on Friday, a juvenile was booked for the same by the Nagpada police. Speaking about the incident, Senior Police Inspector, Sanjay Aananda Baswat said, “The police constable Pritam Madhe, (27) from Marol jurisdiction was leaving after discharging duty and while crossing the road, the 17-year-old accused was rashly driving his bike, as a result of which he rammed into Madhe. The constable, who was injured, was later taken to JJ Hospital for further treatment while the accused was arrested on the same day and booked under 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and relevant acts of Motor Vehicle Act.”

Speaking about further action he said, “We are going to lodge a complaint against the owner of the bike as well for allowing a juvenile to ride the bike, besides. Now the accused is out on bail.”

In another incident that took place later in the evening on Saturday, a lady car driver rammed the car into a head constable of Kandivali police station. Speaking about the incident, a police official at Kandivali police station said, “The head constable, Ashok Salukhe, was walking towards the police station to discharge his night shift duty, near SV Road, while a lady driver, who was driving an Alto car (MH-03—BS-7507) hit Salukhe from behind. Salukhe, who was injured over his eye, has been admitted in Satabdi Hospital for further treatment. We are still searching for the car and the lady, who is absconding after the incident."
