Mumbai: 1 woman dead, another injured in Borivali fire

Officials from the Mumbai fire brigade said that the blaze was small and doused immediately.

A 55-year-old woman died while another was injured after a fire broke out in the electric metre room of Dharmashetra building near Reliance Mall in Borivali West on Saturday evening. According to police, the deceased has been identified as Jaya Ramesh Gharasiya while the injured woman, who has been identified as Laxmi Yarola (35) was immediately rushed to Shatabdi hospital. Yarola's condition is stable. Officials from the Mumbai fire brigade said that the blaze was small and doused immediately. Officials said that Gharasiya died due to smoke inhalation.

Officials from the fire brigade said that the fire broke out around 5.15pm in the metre room, probably due to short circuit. "The fire was very small and it was doused immediately," said a fire brigade personnel. He added that the two women were in proximity of the metre room which was filled with smoke. A senior official from Shatabdi hospital said that Gharasiya was brought dead to the hospital.
