MSRTC busts fake compensation racket, two booked

The two accused allegedly used bogus documents of Thane Civil hospital to claim compensation for accident victims. Rs 1,16,75,000 was claimed on behalf of 26 persons who were not involved in any accident.

The Thane Nagar police have registered a case against a doctor and an advocate for allegedly submitting bogus documents of Shahpur tribals to claim compensation from Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).

The two accused allegedly used bogus documents of Thane Civil hospital to claim compensation for accident victims. Rs 1,16,75,000 was claimed on behalf of 26 persons who were not involved in any accident.

The MSRTC while clearing the compensation for the victims came across two incidents related to accidents which had taken place involving a Shahpur to Junavli bus and a Kude to Bhiwandi bus. The compensation claims were kept under watch, when the name UR Vishvakarma, an advocate and another Dr. Mihir Rananvare came to light as people who repeatedly claiming compensation on behalf of victims. The modus operandi of the accused was to submit bogus certificates of Thane Civil hospital to claim that they were involved in a mishap while travelling in MSRTC bus.

"We clear crores of rupees as compensation claims of the commuters travelling in the MSRTC buses. The advocate and doctor used bogus documents of poor tribals to claim compensation. We cannot deny that they have also managed to withdraw compensation in similar such accident cases.", said a senior MSRTC official..

"We have registered a case under section 418(Cheating with knowledge that wrongful loss may ensue to person whose interest offender is bound to protect),465(forgery),468(forgery for cheating) and 471(using genuine a forged) of the Indian Penal Code against two persons. The MSRTC officials learnt about the racket when they were investigating the claims of two accidents which had arrived for clearance.", said MV Dharmadhikari, Senior Inspector, Thane Nagar police station.
