A seven-day-old baby was allegedly murdered and dumped by her mother in Sahar area of Andheri East. The accused trio includes Bhagyashree Mandavkar, the child's mother, Mandavkar's sisters Archana, 20, and Suchita, 47.

According to the police, Mandavkar was unmarried and was allegedly having an affair. The family, in their statements, told the police that they decided to dump the child as the man was not willing to marry her.

Ravindra Patil, senior PI with Sahar police said, "On Saturday, the locals found the body of a baby floating in a nullah at Ruby Koch Road at Sahar International Airport. The police and the fire brigade were immediately informed."

The body was wrapped in a plastic bag and there were injury marks on her face and strangulation marks on her neck. The police found a medical bill in the plastic bag. Upon further inquiries, it was learnt that the medicines were prescribed by a doctor in Sion hospital.

Patil said, "We got the address of the accused from the doctor. When we visited them, they denied about any new-born baby in their family. Later, we confirmed from the doctor, after showing him photos of the woman, that Bhagyashree had delivered a baby few days back," said Patil. The trio later confessed and have been arrested on charges of murder.
