The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has invited bids to construct a bridge that will help motorists avoid traffic jams while exiting or entering the business district of Bandra Kurla Complex from the Eastern Express Highway or LBS Road.

As per the tender details, the bridge will be constructed between 'G' Block of Bandra Kurla Complex and Chunabhatti (near Somaiya Ground) bypassing Mahim Nature Park, LBS Road, and railway lines close to Sion railway station. The project is expected to be completed in three and a half years.

Moreover, a rail over bridge will also be constructed on V N Purav Marg at the level crossing near Chunabhatti Railway station. "The estimated project cost is Rs 261 crore for the entire project and the flyover will have two lanes on either side," said official from the infrastructure body.

Construction for this 1.6-km-long flyover is expected to begin sometime in June. Once ready, this will give relief to motorists who travel to the business district and will also serve as an alternative route to go from Eastern Express Highway to Western Express Highway and vice versa.

There are also plans to have a flyover and an underpass on the other end of Bandra Kurla Complex – Kalanagar, but it has been kept on hold. The idea is to have better access to the business district, which currently witnesses traffic snarls during rush hours.
