In order to have more citizens use public transport, the Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) that operates city's first Metro corridor between Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar has started to tie-up with corporate companies near the alignment of Metro appealing them to have their employees use Metro-1 for commuting, and is also issuing bulk passes for those companies who agree over the same.

The MMOPL has recently also tied up with three companies by issuing around 200 bulk passes, and also pitched around 430 companies and 1,000 housing societies near the Metro alignment informing all about travelling via Metro and its benefit. The Metro-1 was made operational in June 2014, and it carries more than 3.50 lakh commuters easily on average during weekdays. Its ridership has also touched more than 4 lakh commuters on several days in the past.

There are several areas along Metro alignment like Seepz, MIDC, Saki Naka, Marol, Andheri Link Road where over the past few years office space users have increased due to several reasons.

A spokesperson of MMOPL said, "Metro-1 sales team keeps regular contact with HR/Admin heads of various corporate offices around the alignment and provides customized services. This has enabled Mumbai Metro to build relationship with office goers and make them choose Metro as a preferred mode of transport."

The Metro-1 sales team also regularly visits various housing societies around Metro alignment. "Posters with important information regarding Metro such as first train, last train, call center number, etc is being put up on society notice boards. This helps in keeping Mumbai Metro on top of the mind of society residents," the MMOPL spokesperson added.

However, along with this, MMOPL currently also has tackle with increasing crowd due to increase in the ridership of Metro-1. There has been strong demand by commuters from time to time of increasing the number of coaches that is currently having four coaches in one train.

MMOPL has maintained that it is monitoring ridership constantly and will buy new coaches or train to cater to the increasing ridership. A week ago it also increased the number of trips to 386 trips daily from the earlier 382 trips daily to cater around 6,000 more commuters during peak hours.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has 26 per cent stakes in Metro-1 that was built on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. Remaining 69 per cent stakes are with MMOPL and balance with France based Veolia.
