The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner has filed an FIR against two of his assistant commissioners after the mysterious disappearance of 57 files from his department in the last 15 days.
These files contained reports on raids conducted on various drug manufacturing plants, chemist inspections and sample medicines in the last two years. The assistant commissioners are Sanjay Kale and Dhanajay Jadhav. Senior clerk Shivaji Deshmukh is also allegedly involved.

When FDA officials realised that some files were missing, they conducted an internal inquiry. The probe found that the two officers were not only guilty in the missing files incident, but were also involved in forging documents. Since then, FDA commissioner Purushottam Bhapkar has made it mandatory that all files coming to the department should be mandatorily registered online.
"I find it a serious offence... So, we issued a show-cause notice to the two assistant commissioners and the senior clerk. Since this offence indicates serious irregularities, we need police help for investigations," said Bhapkar.

FDA keeps a watch on the food and drugs industry in the state. They conduct raids on industries related to pharmaceuticals and routinely inspect chemists. A senior FDA official said: "The two officers were given enough time before sending show-cause notices. It was when the two were not offering tendering their replies, the commissioner decided to file an FIR."
