Teachers organisations have raised questions over junior college teachers from the science stream being assigned supervision work during JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) or MHT-CET (Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test). They feel that this may lead to malpractice in the examination.

While the JEE examination was recently conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education for admissions into NITs and IITs, MHT-CET will be conducted on May 5 by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research. The Maharashtra State Federation of Junior College Teachers Organisation (MSFJCTO) have alleged that the science stream teachers were assigned supervision work for the JEE and also been assigned supervision work for the upcoming MHT-CET examination.

Anil Deshmukh, president, MSFJCTO, said, "Till last year, the junior college teachers from the science stream were never assigned supervision work. But this time, apart from arts and commerce teachers or even revenue department officials, science teachers have also been assigned supervision work for MHT-CET examination. These teachers were assigned supervision work even in JEE, which was conducted recently. The examinations should be conducted fairly like the HSC board examination. If the board examination is of English, teachers of English are never given supervision work. Similarly, if these examinations are of science stream, then science teachers should not be assigned supervision work as the question paper is objective type. How much time will it take for a teacher to answer it?

"There will be chances of malpractice if science teachers are roped in for supervision work during the upcoming MHT-CET examination." added Deshmukh.

According to Deshmukh, the MSFJCTO has received a list of names of junior college teachers who have been assigned supervision work. In that list, many teachers have been found to be from the science stream. The organisation has also received letters sent to teachers by the collector's office for this work.

When asked, Dr Pravin Shingare, director of DMER who is in charge of conducting MHT-CET examination, said: "We never gave supervision work to junior college science teachers and neither have we given them any such work for the MHT-CET examination."
