Mhada issues show cause notice to developer over "illegal floors" in buildings

The Mumbai Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) on Tuesday issued a showc ause notice to developer M/S B G Shirke on several illegal floors allegedly developed in three buildings when permission was not granted for more than three floors. The buildings are part of the "Maitri Cooperative Housing Society at Kalina in which several serving and retired IAS and IPS officers have sought flats. Mhada has given a contract to construct the buildings. 

RTI applicant and activist, Anil Galgali in his complaint to the chief minister and municipal commissioner had written stating that the illegal floors in Maitri should be demolished.

Mhada had reserved a plot and asked the contractor to build three buildings. While BMC had given permission for two and three floors, the contractor went ahead and made around 12 floors in each of the wings without any permission. 
 
On Tuesday, the MHADA issued a notice asking the contractor to explain the construction of illegal floors. The authority has given seven days to provide response. "It is shocking case of misuse of power. Around 29 illegal floors have been added to construct a 12-floor high-rise building in Kalina to provide houses to top bureaucrats of Maharashtra," said Galgali.
