Assistant sub-inspector Tukaram Omble, who died in the 26/11 terror attack on the city, will soon have a memorial at his native village.
Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday agreed to release Rs2 crore for the memorial. Kedambe villagers in Satara’s Jawli taluka have agreed to voluntarily donate their land for the memorial.
“Villagers are demanding that a memorial should be set up in the village,” said Shivendraraje Bhosale, NCP MLA from Satara, who added that they were willing to give up their own land.
Omble’s birth and death anniversary will be observed at the memorial which will have a library. Bhosale said Rs1 crore will be released in the next financial year and added that land transfer work will begin soon. Work on the memorial is expected to start this year.
