A group of maulanas on Wednesday resolved to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of Rohingya Muslims staying in India. The meeting that was attended by Maulanas from different parts of the city was held in Bilal Masjid near Grant Road Station.

"It is a humanitarian issue. Rohingya should be allowed to stay in India," said Mufti Abdul Sattar, one of the people who attended the meet. Speakers voiced that when India has welcomed refugees in the past like those from Sri Lanka, Tibet and Bangladesh, it should be open to Rohingya.
"If we are open to Hindus, we should be open to Muslims too. If Rohingya are returned to Myanmar, the Indian government should also ensure their safety there," said Sarfaraz Arzoo, a journalist who, too, was one of the speakers.

"We should also look at the claim that this attack on Rohingya was after an attack in which 79 people from Myanmar forces were killed. If there are such people in the community, they are our enemies. Those who bring such adversity to the community need to be condemned. Even as we come out with a program, we will ask the community to stay in line with us," said Maulana Idris Bastavi.

The community also condemned messages on social media that they said hurt the religious sentiments of the community and that they should protest such things. They also discussed asking the group to file a review petition in the Supreme Court against the Triple Talaq case.

"We decided we will meet the Prime Minister on the issue. India has always been known for humanitarian causes. The humanitarian work that happens here does not happen anywhere else in the wolrd," said Maulana Moin Ashraf, who organised the meet.
