The latest attraction planned in Matheran by the Central Railway (CR) is a revolving restaurant. The CR is also getting in touch with IRCTC to come up with ways to attract more tourists to the hill station.

On April 11, DNA reported about the trial run of the steam engine. Sources said that the CR wants to improve the number of tourists on the 21-km-long Neral-Matheran stretch. "We are looking at having a revolving restaurant at Matheran. We want to attract as many tourists as possible. We shall be running a ceremonial run of the steam engine with two coaches attached to it on April 14 between Aman Lodge and Matheran," said SK Jain, Divisional Railway Manager (Mumbai), Central Railway.

The proposed revolving restaurant will be built on an open plot next to the platforms where the toy trains terminate. This plot is in the middle of a loop line shaped like a bulb before it goes to the yard and returns to the platform again. This loop line has been in use since 1907.

There are British-era structures too which shall be redeveloped and revived to the old look. These are presently in a dilapidated condition and need attention. They are looking at making these bungalows, which used to restrooms for railwaymen in the past, into a heritage gallery.
