Manhunt to nab auto driver after woman he stalked notes down his number

Tilak Nagar police is on a manhunt to nab an auto driver who allegedly stalked a 35-year old woman and forced her to sit inside his auto rickshaw. However, the woman managed to note down the vehicle's registration number MH 05 BG 5297.

She is a resident of Anand Nagar in Dombivali East and was on her way back home on Tuesday evening when suddenly the driver approached her and forced her to sit inside the auto to drop her home near Shelar Naka. When the woman refused he tried to corner her, passed lewd comments and drove away.

"The accused passed obscene comments and took the auto too close to her body but she managed to escape and quickly noted down the number of his vehicle. The auto driver later threatened her with dire consequences and told her that she can call people to nab him. She later reported the incident to us", said a Tilak Nagar police official.

"We have registered a case under section 354(D) of the Indian Penal Code and we are tracking the auto driver from the details given by the complainant. "The accused would be soon behind the bars, meanwhile we will be keeping a watch on the activities near the incident spot," said SS Dhumal, Investigation Officer, Tilak Nagar police station.

The increase in incidents of women being stalked on the streets is a serious concern in Thane region.
