Man who molested media woman arrested

A day after a young woman from a media organisation was allegedly molested by a scooterist at a traffic signal in Khar West, the Santacruz police arrested a 34-year-old- man in connection with the case.

According to the police, the accused, Mohamed Hussain Kanchwala, a resident of Santacruz West, has confessed to the crime.

On Wednesday, around 9am, the girl was commuting by an auto when the incident took place.

A police officer said: "The scooterist started leering at her when the auto had halted near a junction. He also touched her inappropriately. The woman immediately pulled her hand away, and he fled the place."

She then followed the man and managed to note down the registration number of his scooter, following which she called the police. Although she wasn't offered any immediate assistance, the Santacruz police registered a case.

"We took the statement of the victim on Thursday and registered a case of molestation under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty). And based on the description provided, the accused was immediately arrested. He does not have any past criminal record," said Padmakar Chavan, senior PI, Santacruz police.
