Man who attacked Khar senior citizen couple held

City crime branch sleuths have arrested a male nurse who had assaulted a senior citizen couple in Khar last month and robbed valuables worth Rs3 lakh from their residence. The accused, identified as Satnam Sachdev, 38, has been arrested from Himachal Pradesh.

According to joint commissioner of police, crime, Sadanand Date, on October 16, Sachdev had attacked 82-year-old Hirachand Jain and his 79-year-old wife at their Khar (West) residence and decamped with property worth Rs3.82 lakh, including gold ornaments, mobile phone and cash.

A case was registered with the Khar police, and the Bandra unit of crime branch was doing parallel investigation into the case, said additional commissioner KMM Prasanna.

"On receipt of specific information, that Sachdev is hiding in Jalandhar, Punjab, a team led by inspector Deepak Sawant was sent there, but as Sachdev was constantly changing his hideouts, he was not found there. He was finally traced in a bus during a nakabandi in Manali on Thursday," said senior inspector Sanjay Satardekar.

As per the police, Sachdev was employed at the home of the couple for 22 days before he attacked the two.
