Man stabs wife, surrenders before cops

A 60-year-old man stabbed his wife wife at their residence in Tilak Nagar following a quarrel between the two on Wednesday afternoon. Later, the accused himself walked up to the police station and surrendered. The victim, Sugandha was rushed to Rajawadi hospital where doctors declared her to be out of danger.

According to the Tilak Nagar police the accused, identified as Jayram Shetty, was running a canteen owned by his brother-in-law. However, since the past few days, he had not been going to the canteen. Shetty's wife, Sugandha had been asking him the reason behind absenting from work.

"The couple was fighting for the last few days. On Wednesday, in middle of a fight, Shetty stabbed his wife with a knife and ran away from the house. Their married daughter who had come to visit her parents was also present in the house when the incident occurred," said Bhagwat Sonawane, senior police inspector from Tilak Nagar.

Sonawane further added " Later, Shetty himself came and surrendered before the police and we have arrested him and booked him for attempt to murder," he said.
