The Sessions Court on Wednesday convicted a 36-year-old man who was arrested by the Bandra crime branch unit IX for kidnapping a child. The court presided over by judge PR Bhavake sentenced the man to ten years of rigorous imprisonment.

The kidnapper, Praveen Singh along with two more accused Omprakash Singh and Keshav Singh, in 2010, had entered into a conspiracy to kidnap the child and seek for the ransom from the family.

The accused kept on calling the victim’s family from various locations and started threatening the family. The police were tracking the location of the accused anyway. The day the accused were planning to strangulate the child and kill him, the police caught the accused and the child had a lucky escape. The police had found sedative pills bottles which the accused had administered to the victim.

The police had then arrested the three accused. However after six months, the accused were released on bail. When Praveen jumped bail, the case was opened against the other two accused.

In 2012, the court had convicted the two and sentenced them to ten years of rigorous imprisonment. Two years later, in the year 2014, the police caught hold of the absconding accused and he was prosecuted.
Prosecutor Mangesh Arote examined total eight witnesses in the case along with the victim and his parents and all supported the evidence. The accused was held guilty of the offence and thus convicted.
