The Bangur Nagar police on Saturday arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly killing the four-year-old son of his girlfriend. In search of a job, the accused moved into the city with his girlfriend and her two children a few months ago.

What was the couple's living situation?
According to the Bangur Nagar police, the accused, identified as Taher Chotekhan, along with his girlfriend Taslim Khan, 23, had moved to Bhagat Singh Nagar chawl in Goregaon (W) three days ago, from Hyderabad. The couple had moved to the city in prospects of a better living.

What were the sequence of events on the day of the murder?
On Saturday morning, Taslim left her daughter Aksha, 8 and son Aayan, 4 with Tahir, and went out to run some errands.
At around 11 am, Tahir allegedly beat Aayan with his bare hands, after which blood came out from the child's mouth, and he fell unconscious.

What happened at the hospital?
Senior police inspector Dyaneshwar Jawalkar of Bangur Nagar police station said: "After the child fell unconscious, Taher became scared and immediately rushed the Aayan to Siddharth Hospital, where the child was declared dead after admission."

How did cops get wind of the situation?
The inspector said that his station was informed of the unnatural death by the hospital authorities, and rushed their team to the hospital.
"Meanwhile, Taslim came to police station and informed us about Taher beating Aayan, about which her 8-year-old daughter had informed her," the officer added.
Accordingly, the police registered a case of murder against Taher and arrested him.

Has police zeroed in on the accused's motive?
In her statement, Taslim said that she was previously married and came to Mumbai in search of a job. Despite repeat requests from Taher to marry him, she rejected the proposals.
Sr PI Jawalkar added: "We think that Taslim's constant refusal to Taher's proposals irked him. He may have considered the kids as a hindrance to his life, and thus took this step."
