The Agripada police have recently arrested a 32-year-old software engineer for allegedly fitting a skimmer device and a camera in an ATM booth of a nationalised bank to get debit card details of customers. The aim of the arrested person was to clone cards. The skimmer and camera has been recovered by the police.

The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Rizwan Mohaamad Dilshan Koti.

According to the police, on May 5, the complainant (name withheld) had visited the ATM booth situated on the ground floor of Classic Tower building near Agripada police station.

"The complainant spotted some sticky substance near the card slot of the machine and also found a small camera lying on the floor of the booth. He the alerted the bank," said a police officer.

The bank officials then went through the CCTV footage of the booth and learnt that around 4.15pm on May 5, two persons had entered the booth and fitted something near the card slot and something on the ceiling. "The camera pasted on the ceiling must have fallen down and the complainant noticed it," said the officer.

He added that the accused persons were caught more than once on May 4 in the camera of the booth. "On May 6, the bank approached the police and lodged a complaint in this regard. We laid a trap as we anticipated that the accused persons would certainly arrive at the booth to take back the skimmer and the camera. When one of the accused visited the booth, he was caught immediately since he was already identified in the CCTV footage," said the officer.
