The Naupada police have registered a case against an unidentified man for breaking into a Titan watch showroom early on Friday morning and stealing over 100 branded watches worth Rs40 lakh. The police have recovered CCTV camera footage from the store and are now on the lookout for the culprit.

On Friday around 10.30am, Roni Jitendra Shah, the owner of the showroom on Gokhale Road in Naupada, visited his shop, only to find the locks on the shutter broken. On entering the store, he saw that someone had made away with most of the watches in the shelves.

The police were informed, and on going through the footage recorded on the store’s CCTV camera, they saw a man, aged between 40 and 45, breaking in.

“We have gone through the footage, which clearly displays images of the culprit.
On going through the CCTV footage, the owner informed us that the man had come to the store the previous day and bought a watch worth Rs400,” said Amar Kalange, investigating officer, Naupada police station.

Kalange added, “The thief made away with over 100 watches from three counters in the store. He also tried to snap the wire connected to the CCTV camera, but he couldn’t succeed.”

Of the watches that were stolen, 42 were Titan watches worth Rs32 lakh, 27 Tommy Hilfiger watches worth Rs3 lakh and 43 Titan Edge and Obaku watches worth Rs5 lakh.

“There is a watchman stationed outside the shop at all times during the day, but strangely, there is no security in place at night. We are conducting further
investigations into the case, and will nab the culprit soon,” said Kalange.

The Naupada police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
