The start of Mumbai Monorail's second year on Monday was not a good one — one trip was cancelled after a door malfunctioned.

"One trip was cancelled around 6.30am on Monday due to technical reasons. But services were normal and there was no delay throughout the day," said Dilip Kawathkar, spokesperson of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

Another MMRDA official said the problem was with one of the doors of a monorail.

The problem cropped up with Rolling Stock Train number 8 early on Monday. The problematic door had to be isolated so that passengers could alight through the monorail's other doors.

One journey from Wadala Depot to Chembur and return had to be cancelled as it took the monorail staff took time to isolate the door. Later, the monorail was taken away as a standby inside the car depot, followed by withdrawing it from service.

Monday was the first day of the second year for Mumbai Monorail — it was opened for public use on February 2, 2014. On February 1 last year, then chief minister Prithviraj Chavan had inaugurated the mode of transport to ply between Wadala Depot and Chembur.
