A recent survey conducted at the IIT Bombay campus for new students has revealed that even though 30% of them are in a relationship, 95% have never had sex before, reports The Times of India

The student newspaper of IIT-B, Insight, got inspired by the Harvard Crimson Freshman survey, and conducted the survey to appreciate the diversity that a fresh batch brought with itself.  This campus, located in Powai, looked at the varied beliefs and lifestyles of the students, including their ideas about politics and sexuality, plans for post graduation, as well as their background before they entered IIT.

The report found out that a majority of them were politically liberal, and approximately 75% of the batch were open minded about homosexuality, and supported same-sex marriages. Only 254 out of 875 people who entered through JEE participated in the survey. Chief editor of Insight, Shreeyesh Menon, claimed that "The survey was part of an effort to understand the institute's demographic better. It's important so that we can see how we're growing as an institute."

The survey has revealed how the idea of an IITian has changed over time. Strong religious following of any kind has reduced, as 60% of them follow no such practices or beliefs, with another 30% claiming to be "somewhat religious". However, when questioned about the idea of God, 18% turned out to be atheists, 35% as agnostic and 47% believe in God as an entity.

The amount of time spent on social media has shot up as well, with the number of people not using Facebook  decreasing from 37% to a mere 6%.

The survey begun back in September and the results were disclosed on Tuesday. Since this survey was done amongst the freshers for the first time, there were no results to compare them with.
