A 35-year-old housemaid was arrested by the DN Nagar police for allegedly extorting Rs3 lakh from her employer. The accused, Pandhra Ghosh, was employed by Manoj Panda, 48, who is the deputy general manager of Indian Oil Corporation. The woman allegedly extorted the money from him after she threatened to publicly expose his 'obscene' videos. However, it was later found out that the videos she was referring to were that of songs.

According to the police, Panda succumbed to her demands since his wife suffered a heart attack as she could not bear Ghosh's threats. An officer from DN Nagar police station said, "Ghosh was employed six months ago to look after Panda's wife who was unwell. Later, she started demanding money."

Panda agreed to increase her wages. However, Ghosh wanted a huge amount of money. "She informed him that she was in possession of some obscene videos of Panda and that she would release them publicly. She asked for Rs12 lakh," added the officer.

Although Panda did not succumb to her demands initially as he knew he had done nothing wrong, his distressed wife suffered a mild heart attack due to the threats, said the police. Following this, Panda agreed to pay the money as he could not handle the stress and his wife's condition.

The amount was brought down to Rs3 lakh after further negotiations, which he paid up in June. "Although she left the house after this, she contacted him recently and started demanding Rs1 lakh more from him. He then approached the police," said the officer.

The police officials decided to lay a trap and nab the woman. Panda agreed to pay the amount and asked her to meet him at Versova fish market on Monday. "While handing over the money, we nabbed the woman and took her in our custody," added the officer. The police also recovered the CD from her which contained nothing but songs. Investigations are on to find out if she extorted money from any other person in the same manner.
