The state government will follow the Bombay high court order for status quo on admissions under Right to Education (RTE) quota. The order means private schools will not cancel admissions of pre-primary students done under the quota for the forthcoming academic year. The state had wanted all such admissions to be cancelled through its April 30 government resolution (GR) issued by the education department.

While some schools were in favour of the GR, others were against it. After a few schools moved the high court against the GR, the court had on Thursday ordered that no school will cancel the RTE admissions of pre-primary students for the forthcoming academic year.

SC Kedia, secretary of Unaided Schools Forum, said: "The court has given the right order. The education department has messed up the RTE admission process. Very few schools might have removed students from pre-primary after the GR came. Now since the court has asked the state to reimburse the fees of pre-primary students under RTE quota, schools will take back those students."

Talking to dna, education minister Vinod Tawde said, "I came out with a justified government resolution which was student-centric and gave justice not just to students but also to the schools. Since the high court order is to maintain status quo on RTE admission and take back pre-primary students in schools, we will follow it. However, we will have to deduct the money spent on rural students in order to pay the fees of children studying under RTE quota in CBSE, ICSE or IGCSE schools."
