Maharashtra government has asked various co-operative milk federations and private firms to submit it's daily milk handing report so that they can avail the government announced subsidy on productions of milk and milk powder.

The co-operative milk federations and private milk supplying firms will have to transfer this availed subsidy amount directly into the farmer's bank accounts. However, this announced subsidy cannot be availed on the packed milk production and supply.

According to the state government notification, the government has decided to extend the subsidy of Rs 50 on per kg milk powder and Rs 5 on per litre milk production.

Swabhimani Shetkari Sangsthana (SSS) was protesting for last one week to increase the price of milk so that farmers can afford to keep their live stocks. Currently, farmers are getting Rs 17 for one litre milk against the productions cost of Rs 35 per litre. Other farmers organisations had also extended their support to the agitation. Farmers from various parts of the state expressed their anger by blocking roads, spilling milk on highways. This led to a shortage of milk supply. The issue was also raised in the State Assembly's Monsoon Session in Nagpur.

"This subsidy on milk productions will be available for three months. Its extension depends on the response it receives. The milk federations have to submit it's report to the commissioner of milk development authority that will check and verify the report and forward to the government for its final nod. This subsidy is not available for selling of packed milk to consumers. Besides, the subsidy can be availed either by the milk production firms or the milk suppliers. Both cannot rip the benefit. Those who will take subsidy on milk powder, won't be be permitted to take the same benefit on milk which was used to make the milk powder," stated the notification.

It further says that the milk federations, suppliers and sellers have to keep updated records of their daily milk productions. The notification further stated, "The records have to be submitted to a district milk development officer. The firms or federations which handle 10,000 litres of milk daily can participate and avail the benefit of this encouragement subsidy scheme."

Firms and federations whose milk handling capacity is less than 10,000 litre, can provide or sell the milk to private firms and co-operative federations to get the benefit of this scheme. Besides, it is mandatory for these firms and federations to submit it's report of additional milk and its further usage. The districe milk development officer can verify the report and after every ten days, the encouragement subsidy will be extended over additional milk supply. The milk development officer can also set up vigilant squads to cross-check irregularities. If there is any, then subsidy for the firms will be stopped permanently and the government will recover the earlier given subsidy amount with interest. Moreover, legal action will be initiated against these firms."
