The students of Tasgaonkar Institute, run by Saraswati Education Society (SES), can finally heave a sigh of relief from tomorrow (Saturday), as the management has released one month's salary of its non-teaching staff, on the request of state higher education minister Ravindra Waikar.

So far, the non-teaching staff have been protesting against the SES management, and not allowing the college to begin. Now that the authorities have released the non-teaching staff's one month's salary, students can begin preparing for their upcoming Mumbai University examinations.
Non payment of over 14 crore staff by the social welfare department that looks after the fees of minority students, has triggered widespread protests.
The non-teaching staff of Tasgaonkar Institute, Bhivpuri, haven't been receiving their salaries for the past 6 months. In addition to the rallies, this resulted in the protestors preventing teachers from entering the institute.
This bone of contention is the salary paid to the institute by the social welfare department for minority students fees. The combined amount due of last year and this year, is over Rs14 crore.
State higher education minister and minister for housing, Ravindra Waikar ordered the management of SES to start the college from Saturday, or face the consequences.
Rajesh Tasgaonkar, trustee of the society said that out of six months, the officials on Friday paid one month's salary to the non-teaching staff. The rest, he said, would be paid by the end of March. Additionally, he assured that students will have uninterrupted lectures and that they needn't worry about the upcoming examinations.
He added: "We have paid the salary from open category students' fees and some from the trust. If the social welfare department will pay us the fees of students from socially and economically weaker sections, then it will reduce the burden of the management."
