The Maharashtra government has undertaken a statewide exercise to put in place a robust ecosystem to facilitate enrolment and updating Aadhaar. This is necessary as individuals will have to undergo authentication or produce proof of possession of Aadhaar number to avail benefits, subsidies or services provided by the state government. The Maharashtra Information Technology Corporation (MahaIT) is developing the Maharashtra DBT & Services Portal where all individual beneficiary schemes can be availed.

On the portal, user registration will be based on Aadhaar authentication and the user will need to have his mobile number and bank account number seeded with Aadhaar to ensure seamless direct benefit transfer (DBT). In case any resident intending to avail of the service, benefit or subsidy from the state does not have an Aadhaar number, the portal will assist citizens applying for enrolment or updating process.

The government in its notification issued on September 16 said the Maharashtra SETU Society will act as State Registrar and hence all 3929 Aadhaar enrolment kits are transferred to the former. The State Registrar will designate MahaOnline as an enrolment agency with immediate effect & transfer the kits as per requirements to Mahaonline. The Women and Child Development department will function as registrar to drive Aadhaar enrolment at Anganwadi Centres across Maharashtra.
