Madanpura kids get platform for talent

With an aim to encourage local talent, non-profit Urdu Markaz has set up a platform in the Madanpura area in Mumbai Central called ‘Madanpura Vikas Manch’, which will guide school students and teenagers in their daily studies and motivate them to hone their cultural talent.

Speking about the platform launched a month ago, Zubair Azmi, director of Urdu Markaz, said, “Madanpura has a history of cultural legacy related to Urdu artists. The population mainly belong to the middle class and lower middle class families who worked in the small scale industries. This platform is to encourage the children in the area to showcase their cultural talent in any form and empower them. We would like to see the children in this area develop in every field and have leadership skills.”

Through this platform, Urdu Markaz will be organising different workshops and seminars for the students. “We are doing this at the ward level as a pilot project and will be focusing on every child’s development. We will be collecting building-wise data of the children. This is also a platform for the parents to guide them. We want the local children to showcase their passion in their mother tongue,” said Zubair.

Elaborating on how workshops would be organised, Azmi said, “We will be calling experts to guide the students during the workshops which will be free of cost for them. Our motive is to work in the field of education, to improve their economy and empower them.”

Urdu Markaz will also be asking graduates from the locality to help them in the initiative. “We need to make the graduates understand their responsibility. We will ask them for their contribution to teach the younger children in the locality,” Azmi added.
