According to LMO controller Amitabh Gupta, the department had been receiving numerous complaints of overcharging, following which the department arranged a special drive on April 29, and observed various irregularities.

After having received complaints of overcharging of packaged goods in colleges, hospitals and club canteens, the Legal Metrology Organisation (LMO) recently conducted a special drive in Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad and Nagpur, and lodged 123 cases.
According to LMO controller Amitabh Gupta, the department had been receiving numerous complaints of overcharging, following which the department arranged a special drive on April 29, and observed various irregularities.
"In all, 123 cases were lodged in the state, of which nine were regarding irregularities in declarations on packages, 75 cases were of selling packaged commodities for more than the maximum retail price (MRP) and 39 cases were of not regularly stamping weights and measures. Some of the canteens that were searched in Mumbai were of Bombay, Sion and KEM hospitals, Santa Cruz Gymkhana, Bhavan and Somaiya colleges and the Club." said Gupta.
The LMO has also appealed to the citizens that if they come across any such irregularity, they should immediately lodge a complaint with the department. "Apart from our control room number and email ID, citizens can lodge their complaint on our WhatsApp number – 9869691666 – and on Facebook page Legal Metrology Maharashtra Consumer Grievances," Gupta said.
