On Friday evening, a 25ft under-construction wall of a godown collapsed in Vasai, leading to the death of a labourer. Nine others were also injured in the mishap. Seven of the nine injured people have been admitted to a hospital in critical condition.
The deceased has been identified as Balram Jimbhal. The 25-year-old victim died after he was trapped under the wall along with the nine other persons.
"The illegal construction of a godown at Khairpada village near Valiv in Vasai East was being carried out for some time now. However, during construction, a wall of the structure collapsed, killing one labourer and injuring nine others," said a senior officer from Valiv police station.
He added: "We will book the owner for negligence. Post-mortem was conducted on the deceased while the other injured victims are being treated at Golden Park hospital."
