The Ahmednagar Sessions court in its judgment copy has made strong remarks against the three accused held guilty of a minor girl's rape and murder at Kopardi village in Maharashtra. The court maintained that this death penalty should set an example to other like-minded people, who harbour similar evil thoughts towards defenceless women who do not have a voice to complain about the molestation suffered by them.

The judgment copy, which runs into 145 pages, mentioned stated why the convicts did not deserve anything less than death penalty. "It also shows that there is no possibility of their reformation or rehabilitation. They are not even suitable to live in their own family and also in a village and in the society at large. The fact that their family is depending upon them and they are having small children and old aged parents are very common in every case. On the other hand, if they are having responsibility of their family on their shoulder, it is expected that they should behave like responsible human being," held the court.

While refusing to accept their plea for awarding minimum punishment as they were the 'only bread winner' of their respective families the court held that the manner in which the crime has been committed by the accused against a girl of their own village, they cannot get leniency in any manner.

The court held that the incident has shaken soul and minds of people, not only in Ahmednagar District, but also of the whole of Maharashtra and community at large.

"In fact, no amount of punishment to the accused is sufficient to compensate the loss, trauma and pains suffered by the family of the victim and the girls of that age residing in the village,"the court held and added that the only punishment of death sentence is appropriate.
