The Peasant and Workers Party (PWP) distributed over one lakh bhakari, chapatis, dry vegetables and fish free of cost at Azad Maidan on Monday. Preetam Mhatre, PWP corporator and Opposition leader in Panvel Municipal Corporation, told DNA that they decided to help the protesting farmers by providing home-made food. "Most of our women workers woke up at 4 am to prepare the food."

Balama Patil, MCL of PWP, said that they had not a spent the single penny over the truck-load of food. "People voluntarily came forward to help with the food. We are feeling very happy to see the farmers eat our bhakari and dry fish."

Mhatre said messages were exchanged with party workers over WhatsApp to bring the food to Karnala Complex in Panvel. "We then immediately rushed the truck to Azad Maidan. More than 5,000 farmers were fed with food from our truck. When the dry fish and vegetables were over, we brought out mango pickle so that farmers could eat the bhakari with pickle," he said.
