A day after a 65-year-old share trader from Kandivli was found dead in his apartment by his sons and residents of the building, the police are checking CCTV footage of the locality. They suspect that the killer and the victim may have entered the house together, as a watchman had seen the senior citizen entering the building with someone.

“We are going through the CCTV footage of the locality as a watchman revealed that he had seen the victim with one person,” said a senior officer privy to the investigations. Meanwhile, police officers investigating the case said poor security measures at the housing society had provided easy access to the killer. The visitor’s logbook kept at the entrance to the society had not been maintained by security guards since January last year. The housing society is located near a bustling market. Mukund Pawar, Senior Inspector, Kandivli police station, said, “We request the societies and complexes to maintain the visitors’ register and also install CCTV cameras in the building,” said Pawar.

Devendra Doshi, 65, a resident of Ashok Co-operative Housing Society at Mathuradas Road of Kandivli West, lived alone in the flat. When his two sons, who reside in Mira Road, tried to reach him for the past couple of days, they did not get any response. They then contacted the building residents and later entered the house opening the door with a duplicate key.  They found Doshi lying in a pool of blood. A case under section 302 (murder) and 452 (house trespass) of the IPC has been registered against unknown person(s) for the incident.
