Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be in Mumbai on December 14, for the induction of much awaited Kalavri class submarine into Indian Navy.

It would be after a gap of 17 years that a diesel-electric attack submarine is being inducted into the Indian Navy. INS Sindhurashtra was inducted way back in the year 2000.

Sources from ministry confirmed that Prime Minister's tour had been finalized and he would be coming to Naval Dockyard on December 14'th for induction of Kalavri class submarine.

"K class" submarines are known to possess best possible techniques when it comes to diesel-electric attack submarines. India at present has only 13 diesel-electric submarines including 9 in the category of Sindhughosh submarines.

After an agreement worth 3 billion dollars with France in the year 2005, these diesel-electric submarines were to be built after technology transfer. The first of these submarines was to be inducted into the Navy in 2013 but after a delay of four years, it is now being inducted on December 14'th.
