The police have arrested one suspect who allegedly murdered a 55-year-old man and injured another one in Kalamboli on Monday night.

According to the police, Gurprit Singh, alias Gopi, a resident of Mulund, attacked Sukhdev Singh Majjar and Lakhvinder Singh Majjar, with sharp weapons, in an isolated area in Kalamboli’s sector 10. While Sukhdev died in the attack, Lakhvinder suffered grievous injuries and is now recuperating in a city hospital.

“Sukhdev and Lakhvinder got into a scuffle behind a shopping outlet over some monetary issues late on Monday night. Gurprit, who got to know about the fighting, reached the spot and took Lakhvinder away. However, they returned to the spot after sometime and Lakhvinder started fighting with Shukhdev,” said Vijay Pandarpatte, police inspector from Kalamboli police station. An infuriated Gurprit then attacked both, Sukhdev and Lakhvinder, with the weapons he had in his pocket and left the spot. Locals spotted the duo on Tuesday morning and informed the police.

“Lakvinder shared some details about Gurprit with us, and we began our search soon after. We finally arrested him from Mulund on Wednesday. No weapons have been recovered from his possession so far,” he said.

The police have booked the accused under section 302 of the IPC. He was produced before the judicial court on Thursday afternoon and has been remanded to police custody till November 25.
