Jobless, man opts for death

Just how much can a man take? This question had been bothering 36-year-old Indrayan Sinha for some time. May be, for over a couple of months. Because, Sinha, a call centre employee, had lost his job about three months ago. And he had been vocal about his frustration as he talked to his wife of running on empty and having no other resource to turn to.

At the end of his tether, the unemployed resident of Beverly Park in Mira Road tried to end his life on Wednesday by jumping off the eleventh floor of the building he lived in. He stood there on the railing of the window and made his intention clear. However, a determined wife talked him in and saved the day for the family.

But Thursday was no different for them as Sinha had no qualms about making his feelings apparent by standing on the window railing once again even as his wife and friends tried to prevent him from jumping. Sinha would not budge. The residents of the building too tried coaxing him into climbing down.

In the meantime, the fire brigade reached the spot. As the siren of the vehicle grew louder, Sinha jumped off, and the onlookers — building residents, his friends, wife and son — gaped in horror.

"Sinha jumped from the balcony before the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) fire brigade could rescue him," said Dhanaji Kshirsagar, PI, Mira Road police station.

Sinha has left a note behind. "We have found a suicide note which is addressed to his wife. It states that he is ending his life because of unemployment. It also asks her and to take care of his seven-year-old son. Sinha was divorced twice.

We have registered a case of accidental death," Kshirsagar added.

The police have engaged experts to check Sinha's handwriting. This would help in investigating the case, they said.
