Two weeks after killing a fellow patient and injuring two, the 42-year-old HIV positive patient suffering from TB of the brain has now been shifted to Medical Intensive Care Unit in JJ Hospital. Doctors say he is mentally stable but his HIV and TB status is something to be worried about and will need long hospital stay.

Dr TP Lahane, dean of Sir JJ group of hospitals said, "His condition is serious. He has bilateral kidney damage with tuberculosis being detected in brain and lungs. His HIV status is also a cause of worry." Psychiatrists are visiting him regularly and anti-psychotic medicines are being given, because of which he is mentally stable.

In an unprovoked attack around 6.30am on May 12, the patient who was admitted in Bombay Hospital's general ward, started hitting Lilabihari Govardhan Thakur, 65, who was sleeping on the adjacent bed, with a saline rod till he started bleeding. Thakur later succumbed to his injuries. The patient also injured two other patients — Praful Parmar, 70, and Janardhan Arte, 66 – and a ward boy. He was later shifted to JJ Hospital under the supervision of a psychiatrist.

During investigation, the psychiatrist at JJ Hospital found that he was schizophrenic and had stopped his anti-psychotic medicines few months back. He had also stopped his TB medicines, after which he was readmitted in Bombay hospital.

The doctor further added that the killer had confessed to hallucinating about someone attacking him and that was the reason he started hitting people on May 12. According to doctors, this kind of hallucination is a common symptom of schizophrenia and the patient is known to be schizophrenic. According to his wife, in the last few days, he showed signs of schizophrenia like irritability, muttering to himself, getting excited, not sleeping, hallucination etc. She also claims that she had pointed this out to the doctors in Bombay Hospital, but no one paid attention.
