In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, Jet Airways is collaborating with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security of India and Bangalore International Airport Limited for a pilot project to test the use of mobile boarding passes on its flights.
A similar system is already available at many airports in the US and Europe.

When will the trial start?
The pilot is being carried out on select Jet Airways flights from Bengaluru to Mumbai and Delhi from February 12.

How will it work?
Passengers will get a bar code in their mail, which will then be assessed during baggage, immigration and security check.

What's the current system?
At present, airlines in India do give digital boarding pass, but passengers need to show the same at the respective airlines' counters and get a physical boarding pass to clear baggage and security checks, as the pass has to be stamped.

What's Jet saying?
CEO Cramer Ball said, "Following the successful completion of the trial, we'll look to extend the service across all Jet Airways flights, once regulatory approvals are notified."

Considered among the busiest airports in the Indian subcontinent, the international airport in Mumbai has the capacity to accommodate more than 40 million passengers annually. Though the airport has won appreciation and accolades for its architecture and functionality from passengers across the world, especially after T2 opened for operation earlier this year, the long queues and slow processes have been criticised by all.
