A day before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled visit to Mumbai, Muslim community members from different organizations protested near the Nagpada junction area on Wednesday.

The protest started from Madanpura till Nagpada junction. Zubair Azmi, director of the Urdu Markaz, said, “The Israeli Prime Minister, who has allegedly killed thousands of Palestinian people, should not be called to the country. There have been posters pasted on the wall to welcome him, in Bhendi Bazar, JJ junction, Nagpada area. We all know that the community is against Israelis. The posters were intentionally posted on the walls in those areas. We have filed a complaint against those posters in Nagpada and JJ police station.”

Local community organizations like Raza Academy, Urdu Markaz to name a few joined the protest today. While a few more organizations will be joining protests on January 18, Thursday at Azad Maidan.

Feroze Mithiborwala co-convener, Indian Muslim for Secular Democracy (IMSD), said, “We are opposing the PM’s visit to India because he is an alleged war criminal. He has on record stated that when he is around there will never be a Palestinian state.

Our PM inviting Benjamin Netanyahu to India, is a national shame. We believe that deep ties with Israel will be harmful to our country in terms of short and long-term strategic security, both internally and externally.”

He further added, “We stand with Moshe whose parents were the victim of 26/11 terror attack. We don’t have a problem with his visit to India. But at the same time, we also appeal to our PM to stand with Palestinian children who were killed. We are going to put up poster of those children while protesting tomorrow.”
