Nearly a month after experimental runs, the railway board has approved the Navi Mumbai route for the popular Mumbai-Pune Pragati Express permanently. The train was diverted via the Panvel-Karjat route last month to offer connectivity to residents of Navi Mumbai.

“The response was great and the Indian Railways has decided to permanently run Pragati via Navi Mumbai through the Panvel-Karjat route,” a top official said. He added that the number of passengers, the time required and the number of trains intersecting its journey were studied during the test runs which helped decide whether it could be sustained.
