The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has also joined the fray to carve out a slice of the Goa pie for itself. The next few days are going to be among the most tourist-heavy as far as the Goa circuit is concerned, agreed railway officials, and IRCTC has decided not to miss out on it.

It has given shape to a 3 days and 4 nights package – it will set off from CST on December 29 and will pick up passengers enroute from Dadar and Panvel before returning from Madgaon on January 1.

"The north Goa leg of the tour on December 30 will cover beaches of Calangute, Bagha, Vagator and Anjuna followed by a boat cruise and dinner. After an overnight stay at a hotel, December 31 will have a tour of south Goa. This would include Colva beach, old Goa churches, Mangeshi and Shantadurga temples, Miramar beach which will be followed by a cocktail gala dinner," said an IRCTC official overseeing the tour.

The package, according to IRCTC officials, has three variants. The standard variant would set back a passenger by Rs 12,999, while the comfort one would cost Rs 19,999 and the deluxe one Rs 22,999.

"The standard package entails stay in a single star hotel and travel by sleeper class. The comfort package has stay in a 2 star hotel and travel by 3rd AC coach. The Deluxe package will have a three -star hotel stay and travel by 2nd AC," said the official. The standard package will be having 336 seats, comfort package will have 86 seats and the deluxe one will have 31 seats, according to IRCTC officials.

For the moment the IRCTC officials are gung-ho about their plan. The official added, "The new year's is the biggest rush season for Goa, A huge number of tourists make their way to Goa from Mumbai. We are providing them guaranteed train seats, hotel accommodation and sight-seeing along with tour escorts. To compete with this would be tough for most travel firms, especially during the new year's in Goa."
