Nearly a month after a bribery case was registered against a 2015-batch IPS officer G Vijay Krishna Yadav, he continues to remain absconding. More trouble has mounted for the officer who had recently applied for an anticipatory bail in a Nanded court, which was rejected, police sources said.

"We are still on the lookout for Yadav. He had applied for anticipatory bail at a court in Nanded a couple of days ago through an advocate, which was rejected by the court. He has kept his mobile phone switched off. We are keeping track of his mobile handset's IMEI number so that he can be traced if he uses another SIM card. We had also gone to Hyderabad to trace him, but could not find him there. We also made inquiries from Superintendent of Police Nanded office and was told that he had left office without informing superiors," said an ACB official, privy to the probe.

Yadav, who was last posted in Nanded, was placed under suspension by the government earlier this month after ACB submitted its report to the government on the bribery case.

According to the ACB, six months ago, an offence of theft was registered against the 34-year-old transporter (complainant in the ACB case) at the Tivasa Police Station at Amravati. Yadav, who was then posted as a probationary Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Amravati, through his suspected aide Sunny Singh Bugai (34), had allegedly demanded bribe from the complainant for not arresting him and diluting charges while presenting them in court. The bribe was to be paid in three installments.

The victim had paid him the money then, but still Yadav, who was posted as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Itwara Division in Nanded, kept demanding more money (Rs 2 lakh) from him. The victim then lodged a complaint with the ACB, which laid a trap on January 30 and caught Bugai accepting Rs 1 lakh installment of the bribe amount. Bugai claimed he had accepted the bribe at the behest of Yadav, said an ACB official.
